Catfish fails to make weight for
record:-
WILBUR, Ind. | September 17, 2005 1:12:06 AM EST An
Indiana man angling for a 39-year-old record discovered his
record-breaking catfish wasn't as big as he had thought.
The state Department of Natural Resources said this week
Donald Kershaw's flathead catfish is only 66 pounds. That's
still a lot of catfish but not enough to break the state
record for the species.
Kershaw originally got his fish weighed at the Wilbur Corner
Shop, where the scales had not been certified by the state.
That scale told Kershaw the fish weighed 85 pounds.
It's still a heck of a catch and a heck of a fish. But maybe
this could help the next guy recognize good scales, said
Randy Lang, a fisheries specialist with the department.
Kershaw's catch could still be eligible for Fish of the
Year.
